About Alan
Alan M. Spinrad brings his clients over 27 years of experience as an attorney, arbitrator, and mediator. Whether serving as Deputy District Attorney for Multnomah County, mediating for the Court of Appeals, or working with the firm’s clients, Alan believes in treating people with respect and dignity. Alan regularly handles large, complex real estate transactions on behalf of buyers and sellers. A skilled mediator, he works to bring opposing parties together to resolve disputes outside of the courtroom.
Alan studied advanced mathematical methods at Carnegie-Mellon University, where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Industrial Administration. He then worked as a mathematical economist for an urban planning consulting firm, prior to law school. As a lawyer, Alan spent five years as a prosecutor before joining Samuels Yoelin Kantor Seymour & Spinrad in 1984. Since then, he has spoken at a number of firm seminars and has been interviewed by several local TV and radio stations regarding various issues, including the OJ Simpson trial.
Alan has mediated for the Court of Appeals since the inception of its appellate settlement program, in addition to arbitrating cases for the Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas County courts and the Arbitration Service of Portland. Alan also mediates and arbitrates privately.
In the community, Alan enjoys helping high school kids expand their horizons and their views of what life might hold for them. To that end, he continues to act as a jump judge at Grant High School track meets after having coached soccer in Northeast Portland for twelve years.
