About Van
Van M. White, III has over thirteen years of experience in construction law and litigation. A large portion of his work relates to the filing and foreclosure of construction liens. His sharp analytical approach and in-depth legal expertise are crucial in his handling of construction law. By working directly with clients and handling their cases in a decisive, prompt manner, Van establishes solid channels of communication that work in the client’s favor.
His background with the Construction Contractors Board (CCB), the state agency that regulates Oregon contractors, lends Van a unique advantage over other local construction-related attorneys. This depth of experience also enables him to help clients use his legal services on the most cost-effective basis possible.
Some may recognize Van from his “Ask the Expert” column, which ran in the Sunday Oregonian real estate section several years ago. Van discussed how residential property owners should protect themselves with construction contracts. He also represents small businesses involved in disputes concerning breach of contract and/or collection actions. He is licensed to practice law in Oregon and Washington.
Van attended Washington State University and Willamette University College of Law prior to becoming a licensed lawyer. Since completing law school, Van put his experience with the CCB to use by instructing prerequisite education courses to contractors seeking their CCB license. He authored a number of articles on Oregon construction law and business practices and has contributed to several articles in national publications on construction related issues. A prolific educator, Van has contributed educational materials to the Oregon Remodelers Association, and regularly gives speeches relating to contract law, lien law and the CCB.
